Diesel’s DMs

Each week we’ll reveal some of the rumours, gossip and garbage that has slid its way into Win Diesel’s DMs.

James “Parking” Lott has been spotted telling new players around the club he’s the first bloke to go straight from colts to Kentwell since mentor and master man-manager Ed Nankivell many moons ago. While the accuracy of this claim is questionable, there is no doubting the big fella’s Brad Thorn-esque attributes have been welcomed into the top grade.

Lotty’s swagger around the club is matched only by that of young Lachlan Bernays, whose newfound confidence apparently stems from several late-night excursions to St Andrew’s College. My spies tell me Bernays was seen arriving at Drew’s around 9:15pm last Friday before leaving at 9:19pm with a huge grin and a few missing buttons. Marathon effort that, congratulations Lachy – the club is proud of you.

Elsewhere, Diesel’s DMs was pleased to see Tom “Donk” Mullany make his return for Whiddon Cup after a few years away from the Blue Giants. Rumours that the bubbler will also be returning with Donk to BGS are yet to be confirmed.

Finally, a special Diesel’s DMs shout out must go to Joey Sangster who makes his starting return this week after a year out with injury. Throughout this time our DMs have been inundated with messages of concern from Joe’s fans – never fear ladies, that beautiful smile is back in time for Ladies Day.

Player Profile: Ollie Cowley

Enabling us to go behind the curtains and get to see another side of our heroes, here at Blue Giants TV, we have been lucky enough to get a sit down scoop with the bookie’s favourite – Ollie Cowley.

When approached by our reporters about a potential interview, Ollie replied “yeah yeah just one sec, about to watch this race”.

Name: Oliver Bet Fred Cowley

Nicknames: Zone, O Zone, Crowley, Punter, Chosen One

Position: Captain, 10, 15, 9 (but my talents are wasted there)

Years at Colleagues: Four

Something you don’t know about me: Had a recent run in with a larger opponent resulting in a rhinoplasty procedure in the offseason – they say you can’t improve what’s perfect but my new head would suggest otherwise.

Strengths: Rugby (obviously). Punting. Inhaling my juul. Organising games of golf with 6 different people then not showing up for any of them.

Weaknesses: Punting. Inhaling my juul. Organising games of golf with 6 different people then not showing up for any of them.

Early season prediction: Was lucky enough to make my Kentwell debut off the bench against the Dirty Reds in the first trial, so keen to get a few more minutes – show the coaches what I can do.

It’s nice to be playing grade this year. The colts coaches couldn’t get the best out of me last year and a lot of the younger blokes struggled to capitalise on my brilliance.

I’ve heard DK is on his last legs so if I bide my time I should be leading Kentwell soon enough.

Long Lunch & Old Colleagues Day recap

Over 180 friends of Colleagues gathered for a hugely successful Long Lunch last Friday at Doltone House.

The lunch was brilliantly MC’d by Toby Lawson, while Justin Harrison and Owen Finegan were in fine form as they went toe-to-toe with stories from their playing careers.

The two Wallaby greats held court and were happy to divulge some state secrets from the Brumbies glory years.

Following the lunch, the crowd kicked on to Verandah Bar to round out what was a great day.

Saturday was Old Colleagues Day at Woollahra No.2 with a number of former players getting down to watch 11 Colleagues teams take the field.

The bouncy castle was a hit with the young ones while the old boys recounted past glories over a few beers and nibbles.

All up it was a great weekend – thanks to all those who got involved and showed their support for the club.
