Welcome Back Magnificent Men

No doubt you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves over the Easter break, but now it’s time to get back into the thick of it so we look forward to catching up tonight, then running out the Easter cobwebs with a tough round against Balmain at Blue Giants Stadium. For the men who played in Burkies and Kentwell last year, the name Balmain doesn’t sit too well as it shouldn’t with many of you. They knocked Kentwell out of the semis in the first round with some help from above, and narrowly beat our Burke cup team in the Grand Final. We are starting to develop a rivalry with these guys that will continue to mature as we head into the amateur era……..when the taps are turned off.

Game times for the weekend are as follows:

Woollahra #2
Kentwell 3.15
Burke 2.00
Whiddon 1.00
Judd 12.00
Sutherland 11.00

Woollahra #3
Barbour 12.45

Weekend Wrap

After two rounds, the mighty blue giants sit right where we belong, at the top of the club championships ladder after a solid but not perfect first two rounds.
Last Saturday against Old Ignatians finished as follows:

RESULTS

  • Kentwell W 54 – 14
  • Burke W 34 – 7
  • Barbour L 19 – 7
  • Whiddon W 19 – 5
  • Judd W 41 – 5
  • Sutherland L 6 – 5

A solid day all round in wet conditions and all in all, the backs were looking really good while the forwards did all the work.

With the Easter long weekend and no games this Saturday, there will be no training tonight so enjoy the break and come back refreshed for what will be a massive round against Balmain. Training will be back better and hopefully drier than last week so get down and work off some of those easter eggs

Round 2 vs Old Ignatians

Friday afternoon means that it is less than 24 hours til we get to take on Old Iggies at Ryde Park in our first full fixture for the year. These guys are historically strong through the grades and never give up so tomorrows matches will take a full 80/70/60/50 minute effort depending on your team.

With a little bit of rain about its looking like the best kind of footy if you’re a forward in wet weather footy. There’s also something for the backs too because everyone knows that your hair looks better when it’s wet. It would be fantastic for the club if we could head into the ‘well deserved’ Easter break with as close to maximum club championship points as possible and cement our spot at the top of Division 1, so get out there early and support the lower grades and stay late to support the higher grades.

Game times are as follows:

Kentwell Cup              3:15pm
Burke Cup                  2:00pm
Barbour Cup               12:45pm
Whiddon Cup              11:45am
Judd Cup                    10:50am
Sutherland cup            9:50am
Halligan Cup                2:00pm (vs Roseville @ Roseville Chase Oval)

Convicts are playing Rouse Hill at Francesco Crescent Reserve. Game times as follows:

McLean Cup        3:15pm
Grose Cup           2:00pm
Walker Cup         12:55pm

Don’t forget to double check that you have signed a registration form and that you have paid subs on the weekend. If not, click here and get it done. After we rinse iggies, get back to the Woollahra hotel and enjoy a half priced meal and $5 beers.

2 weeks to go

2 weeks to go until the first trial against our old sparring partners, the Dirty Reds! With all touch comps over, and Uni back, we should be all hands on deck this week to get our patterns down and team work together.

Training is ON tonight from 6.30 at BGS! Old faces yet to make an appearance would be well advised to turn up this week; JP is pencilling your names in already!

BBQ and Beers on Tonight

BBQ AND BEERS ON TONIGHT 6.30PM! Hugely impressive turnout and effort at training on Tuesday, and tonight presents the perfect opportunity for some old faces to make their first appearance of the year. Come down for a run around, and also to snag your opportunity to join Colleagues legend, Izzy Carey, as he plans the last hurrah at the Courthouse hotel this Saturday night/Sunday morning before 1.30am lockouts are enforced on Monday.
