It’s a Club Championship, top of the table clash this Saturday when Balmain travel to Woollahra Oval #2 for OId Colleagues Day to take on our Blue Giants. Balmain and Colleagues sit 2nd and 3rd respectively on the division 1 club champions and a few wins for the good guys tomorrow will put Colleagues ahead at this midpoint in the season.
In their last outing against Balmain in round 1, Colleagues secured 5 form 6 wins at Leichardt, only to go down in the Kentwell Cup fixture. Balmain have since gone onto remain undefeated in 1st grade this season, with the only team getting close being Mosman who managed a 29 all draw.
The Colleagues Kentwell Cup team is looking for fresh start to the second half of the season after another one point loss last week at the hands of Brothers. Playing at Beauchamp Oval in Chatswood in a make up game, the Colleagues first graders fought back from an early 12 point deficit to be up by six points with only a few minutes left in the match. Unfortunately for the men from Woollahra the referee awarded a penalty try to Brothers for a scrum infringement five meters out from the try line and the home team took the match 24-23.
The other keenly awaited match this weekend is the Judd Cup fixture to be played 12pm. Coached by Laurie Campbell-Avenell and Jason Monteath the powerful fourth grade team have clocked up 259 points in four matches to their opponents zero. Their unprecedented fourth straight shutout victory over Brothers also saw flyhalf Sean McGoldrick kick his 31 consecutive conversion. All eyes on Judd this Saturday.
