Premiership Celebrations

What a Day! What a weekend!

4 Grand Finals for 3 wins is a fantastic effort so congratulations to all players and coaches. Commiserations to the Judd cup boys, a phenomenal season was had by the Juddernaught and while it is a real shame to have stumbled at the final hurdle, the Judd boys definitely did the Blue Giants proud. The St Pats side that the boys came up against was a very strong side and things just seemed to go their way on Saturday. Perhaps the bus was too early…

The news got better as the day wore on with Whiddo’s putting on a phenomenal display to down Balmain 15-8. The forwards were absolutely outstanding and monstered the Balmain pack. Horace was safely back where he belongs, with the Blue Giants before midday and the celebrations while spectating had begun. Suthos went out against an iggies side that had beaten them in two of their three encounters this year but played like legends and with some help from the intercept king Ryley McKay, downed iggies 20-15. While iggies strength was in their forwards, it was the colleagues forwards who stepped up and in similar fashion to the whiddon boys, dominated their opposite number to a man. After the full time whistle, #2from3 was trending around the world but it wasn’t too long before #savalicious took over, after the kiwi flyer sliced through St Pats in the Burke Cup GF. In a great spectacle, the lead changed 5 times but when five eighth, #dingo slipped through and showed he’s still got gas to go over in the corner, the blue giants looked home. In his 265th match for the club, Cam Ireland looked to slam down the final nail in the St Pats coffin with minutes left on the clock but regretted the decision to only go for it with a shingle hand as the ball slipped loose just before it hit the paint. It mattered little though as the boys finished off the game in style and then the real celebrations started.

The buses were packed, the beers were cold and the blue giants were on song. The celebrations were exactly as they should have been, with the buses successfully negotiating the precarious trip back to the correct side of the bridge and George Street and after each of the teams had their roo court, the boys descended on the Woollahra to conjoin their celebrations. Every minute of the GF’s were relived the next day at the clubhouse and some even replayed. The whole of Rose Bay now knows that we’ve got the Whiddon cup in our hands, the Sutherland Cup in our hands, the Burke Cup in our hands and also that some other clubs have got no cups in their hands. It’s part of our service to the community.

What a weekend for the Giants, we look forward to doing it all again at presentation day this Saturday.

Presentation Day – This Saturday

The time has come to continue to celebrate the marvellous achievements firstly of the Grand Final victors but the rest of the club as well. We’re on a roll at the moment so if you’ve got plans, cancel them and get to the Woollahra Hotel for a midday start. We’re in our favourite room, the Blue Giants Room where we can then kick on and watch the swannies try and emanate the Blue Giants achievements in the Burke, Whiddon and Sutherland Cup. Make sure you get there on time – Midday.
