Semi Finals – 6th September 2014

Semi Finals

Finals are here! Congratulations to the players of Burke, Whiddon, Judd, Sutherland and Barbour on making it to the big league this year. Step 1 complete and now it’s time to fire up and take the next step. Nobody remembers the sides that bow out in the semis or preliminary finals or even the team comes second, except for you and your team-mates as you stare into that beer 6 months, 6 years or 60 years down the track and think ‘what if’. Tomorrow presents a huge opportunity for our senior grades to take that next step to the Grand Final. Colties have the slightly harder but extremely satisfying path to the Grand Final, needing to beat all three sides above them to lift the trophy.

To all players, best of luck, Finals are a completely different ball game to the regular season so don’t get caught expecting just another game of footy. At the same time, make sure you enjoy the game and we all know that the most enjoyment comes from playing well and playing to your potential and winning. You never know when you’ll have another shot at a premiership so give it all you’ve got.

To the supporters, get out there in force, lets paint David Phillips blue as we have games back to back from 9am until 3pm. Game times at David Phillips Field, Gwea Avenu Daceyville are as follows (note for non-players, entry fee is $10):

  • 9:00am – Sutherland Cup Major Semi: Colleagues vs Iggies – Field #1
  • 10:00am – Judd Cup Major Semi: Colleagues vs St Pats – Field #1
  • 11:05am – Whiddon Cup Major Semi: Colleagues vs St Pats – Field #1
  • 12:25pm – Barbour Cup Cup Minor Semi: Colleagues vs Knox – Field #2
  • 1:45pm – Burke Cup Major Semi: Colleagues vs St Pats – Field #1

Vale Grahame Wright

Colleagues supporter Grahame Wright passed away last Sunday.

Grahame was the owner of MCS (Maritime Container Services) which he had built up from humble beggining’s to a significant position in container movements at Sydney ports. He had supported Woollahra Colleagues directly for the last three years directly and indirectly through the Bondi 10’s for many years. He also was a contributor to the very successful Bingham Cup held last weekend.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends. All grades will wear black arm bands in tomorrows semi finals as a mark of respect.
