Training Tonight

Afternoon Blue Giants,

Training is ON tonight at Trumper Park. After finally having a couple of days of decent weather, the grounds are open, giving us a great opportunity to get out and train the house down tonight. It’s the final round against Drummoyne this weekend and we showed two weeks ago that the fitness edge on these guys will be critical on Saturday. Not only that but the following week is Semi Final time and certainly 5 colleagues sides will be playing and with a bit of help from the Rugby Gods, we may even get 6 (again).

Make sure you get down by 6:30 tonight. Selections for the finals series are going to be FIERCE.

Take note that Training will be at Trumper Park again on Wednesday night this week before returning to the old faithful Woollahra #2 and #3 next week.

Weekend Wrap – Rd 17 vs Mosman

Some slick negotiating by Club Secretary Frank Coorey saw the Giants avoid a trip over the Harbour Bridge, making the Saturday morning coffee run far less anxious. Games were relocated to Vaucluse ‘house of pain’ and in windy and wet conditions, the four games that were played were split 2 each between Colleagues and Mosman.

Barbour pushed the likely minor premiers all the way losing out only to a final play converted try to go down 7-5. With a couple of senior players due to come back in the next two weeks, our Barbour boys would be feeling confident of bringing the Barbour cup back to BGS. Simultaneously, Burkies put away a desperate Mosman side who were fighting for their life in the competition and played great wet weather footy, the difference, not for the first time this year being the mystical boot of the Wizard. Whiddon and Kentwell kicked off at the same time and Whiddos stretched their winning streak to 11 in a row and while the magnificent men rendition part way through the second half was certainly a lift for Kentwell, it wasn’t enough to get the boys over the line and they were undone by a Mosman side who simply took their opportunities better than the boys in sky blue.

As yet, the rescheduling of the Judd and Sutherland matches have not been determined.

The Annual Colleagues Ball had a masquerade touch this year and as always, there were some phenomenal outfits as we celebrated all that the season has presented so far. Great night had by all and thanks to everyone for attending in such high spirits – the Woollahra Colleagues Ice Sculpture Luge was a real highlight.

Bingham Cup

The Bingham Cup is finally upon us and this festival of Rugby is kicking off this Friday at Blue Giant Stadium and will be held over three days, with the final on Woollahra #1 on Sunday Afternoon. Good luck to the Convicts, lets wrap up some more silverware for the year.
