Round 13 Wrap

What a day was had by Colleagues both young and old.

The Blue Giants turned it on both on and off the field in a great round against Knox Old Boys on Saturday. Sutherland/halligans were outstanding against Alexandria Dukes, running out 95-0 winners in 50 entertaining minutes of rugby. Juddies extended their home ground for/against percentage to over 7500 with a solid second half performance and whiddos were hampered by the officials but nevertheless ran in 6 tries in a solid win. Burkies were again solid in a bonus point victory and then Kentwell came out of the blocks on fire in attack and coupled with resolute defence for all but a 10 minute lapse midway through the second half, held firm against third placed Knox and ground out their fourth win on the trot to secure a spot in a very hotly contested top 4. Only Barbour went down on the day but could be forgiven, playing the reigning premiers with only 14 men, however with uni holidays all but over, its time the young pups started to turn in some winning performances in order to be in the mix come September.

After the Kentwell match, the post-match function was the best of the year and we saw the current crop of colleagues turn in disappointing boat racing performances against both Knox and the Old Boys (who showed they haven’t lost it one bit!) before a Bledisloe boat race was called and what a trouncing the kiwis copped! Let’s hope that result is a sign of things to come.

On the field, the results were outstanding for colleagues:

  •  Kentwell:                                                       W 27-22
  • Burke:                                                             W 24-5
  • Whiddon:                                                       W 36-3
  • Judd:                                                               W 47-0
  • Sutherland (v Alexandria Dukes):            W 95-0
  • Barbour:                                                         L 10-26
